I didn’t get this item for free, so you can trust that my review is solid. Mosquitos are pretty picky about who they prey upon. They prefer a particular scent and blood chemistry which is why I can understand why the reviews range from «didn’t work» to «changed my life.» Let’s face it — when you’re in an area where mosquitos are so thick that you can hear them buzzing and watch them landing on your skin, you should just go inside. Not much is going to save you. However, if you’re like me and your skin lights up with a neon sign for the mosquitos (and you are the ONLY one they’re biting in a group), you’re happy to try just about anything that will keep them away from you.
My husband bought this Thermacell Repeller so I would stop complaining. I still haven’t stopped complaining (sorry, honey), but I have stopped flapping my gums about mosquitos. We put this Repeller out on our porch during the beginning of summer, before the mosquitos were really out and about. About mid-summer I started telling my health care provider (and all of my friends) that I must be going through menopause early or having some major blood chemistry change, because mosquitos were no longer seeking me out of a group. As long as we were outside around our home, I just wasn’t getting a bite. It was miraculous and beautiful. Then we went to a friend’s house. Ouch. They were all over me again. It took me a while to realize (yeah, I’m a little slow) that the reason I wasn’t getting bit at home was because my husband had lit the Thermacell each time we were outside. I honestly didn’t even realize it was on and running. It doesn’t make noise, doesn’t product a smell, and doesn’t really take up any room at all. Pretty dang amazing. We went through 3 scent pads this summer and one fill of butane and it keeps on going. It’s easy to throw in a bag and take anywhere with us. Most everyone who visited this summer has purchased one. I advise you do the same if you’re a mosquito magnet like me. It really is a game changer.

Anything that stops vampires is ten stars for me & this stops them.
It doesn’t smell. It doesn’t make noise. It doesn’t get hot.
It just clears the mosquitos & only mosquitos.
Comes with easy to set up instructions. Just a couple tips to offer.
First, the butane cartridge doesn’t click. Just kind of stays in after you push it.
The base twists to turn on & off but you have to click to the start position to activate yet, the Start position is spring loaded so it bounces back to On. I thought it was broken, nope that’s how it works.
Second, you know it’s On bc a light illuminates.
It’s not so much a light as an orange pinprick you have to look through window to see.
You may want to know how you’ll know when to change the pad, Trust Me~ You’ll Know, but the pad turns from blue to white if you want to keep an eye on it..has about a 4 hour life per pad & you get 3.
I am the person a mosquito will find from miles away even in my house. The only one they find in a room of people.
I live in a tropical climate & never have a moment’s peace in my garden.
I’ve used sprays, foggers, candles, torches…the list goes on.
This is the first time I’ve been able to sit on my patio in peace, even the cat was safe.

Ok. So I got this out of desperation. We live in the panhandle of Florida where the humidity and warm temps means mosquitos are abundant. I get eaten alive while my happy-go-lucky husband avoids all bites. He scoffed when I ordered this saying it wouldn’t work but guess who was WRONG?! Yep. This thing works MIRACLES y’all! Freaking MIRACLES. I let it warm up for a good 5-10 min and it works amazingly. When I’ve left it warm up I have received ZERO bites within that 10-15 foot radius, which is perfect for our deck. So after 2 weeks here are the pros and the cons because everything has a con.
Pros: repeals mosquitos crazy well, has a slight pleasant smell, it’s cute, no open flames, easy to operate, easy to install new repellant mats, affordable replacement mats, ease of ordering replacement butane.
Cons: I’m on my second mat (they say they last 12 hours which has been more like 10ish for us), the butane already ran out (it comes with one butane cartridge for fuel but after my second mat it’s run out).
Bottom line, BUY THIS and BUY EXTRA butane and cartridges so you don’t run out!!

So I was quite disappointed at first because I couldn’t seem to keep the flame lit, it would start up and quickly fizzle out, assuming it was faulty I was quite upset the first night attempting to use it. A couple days later with a clearer head it occurred to me that it’s a “flame” and flames need oxygen, and I’ve been trying to use it with the lid on. So I kept the lid off and it started working without any problems. Unfortunately nothing in the directions mentions the lid, and the picture on amazon doesn’t show the lid, which is probably where most people’s bad reviews are coming from. So keep the lid off unless storing it somewhere and enjoy!

I used this product in my yard in Florida. I gave it more than an hour (manual says it takes 10-15 minutes to be effective). I was still being swarmed by mosquitoes. I decided to return product but because it contains butane it cannot be returned. Amazon gave me a full refund.

So I have a thermacell M300 and it works very well here in Colorado. Bought this for my patio and it wouldn’t light so I contacted Thermacell to see if I could get a new pietzo/lighter element. They then told me that Thermacell will not work above 4500 feet elevation and I should send it back to Amazon. They also said they were surprised that my other Thermacell product worked. I just looked again to see if there is any warning about elevation. I didn’t see anything with a quick scan, but it is probably in the directions that came with the unit. Anyway, I have nothing against the company but feel like this should be put in the description. NOT DESIGNED WORK ABOVE 4500 feet. I have included a picture of my other Thermacell product working in Castle Rock, CO at 6000+ feet. Btw, it works fine so go figure.
